Workshop Descriptions
SWEEP is organizing a series of one-day training workshops on high performance homes, including ‘zero energy homes' that incorporate renewable energy systems, such as solar PV panels to generate electricity and solar hot water systems. The workshops will provide homebuilders, architects, real estate professionals, local government officials and others interested in improving home energy performance with an overview of the design, features, incremental costs and performance of high performance homes. SWEEP is organizing the workshops with support from the DOE Building America program.
Purpose and Objectives
The purpose and objective of the workshops are to provide an overview of the design characteristics and features of high performance homes, technical assistance resources for the home building industry, and information on strategies for marketing and selling high performance homes. Participants will hear from leading national experts about using high performance homes to differentiate their homes in the marketplace, achieve faster sales, and increase homebuyer's satisfaction.
Intended Audience
The workshops are intended for organizations and individuals in the home building industry and other organizations that are interested in achieving significant improvements in the energy performance of new homes, including:
- Homebuilders, developers, architects and designers
- Residential energy efficiency specialists (e.g., home energy raters, building science professionals)
- Real estate professionals (e.g., realtors, lenders, appraisers, and builder sales and marketing staff)
- Local governments (e.g., building officials, planning staff, and sustainability program coordinators)
Dates and Locations
Three workshops will be held in 2008 in the following cities: Salt Lake City, Utah, April 30th, 2008;
Phoenix, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada (dates and locations for Phoenix and Las Vegas to be announced).
